Elevation: Below 1000'
Visibility: 10'-12' on average
Access: Boat ramp or dock
Minimum Experience Level: Open water with no less than 10 logged dives.
Bottom Composition: Varies from packed rock and sand to high silt.
Marine Life: Northern red and frilled anemones, wide varieties of
starfish including spiny sunstars and purple sunstars, nudibranch,
urchins, scallops, blue mussels, green and brown crabs, lump fish, wolf
fish, halibut, sculpin, haddock, eel, shrimp, wide variety of sea
worms, wide variety of jellies, sand dollars, moon snails, hermit
crabs, whelks, pollock, barnacles, limpets and much more.
Vegetation: Dulse, sea lettuce, kelp, and rockweed.
Attractions: Sunken salvageables such as clay pipes, lobster
traps, bottles, sea glass, sunken buoys, anchors, etc. Seawall and
piers to explore. A cavernous pier that houses numerous species
and dive adventures on its own. Depths can approach 50' at high tide.
Notes: Eastern Maine has the most severe tides in the world.
Eastport breakwater is a high traffic zone for commercial and
recreational boats. Use extra caution when planning dives at this
location. It is highly recommended that divers use full thermal
protection as the water averages a cool 45-52 degrees. Dive Safe.
